Nuttin' But the FAQ's, Ma'am!
1. I'm having trouble listening to audio clips on your website. Why?
|
The audio clips on this site are both in .MP3
and .rm format. Both types can be played by downloading the free RealOne Player from
http://www.real.com.
When you click on an audio link at this
site, your computer system will start the
playback software that is setup as the
default player. If you need to change
the default settings on a player, find a
pull-down menu that says Preferences or
Options and look for a Default Settings
section. You'll see where you can
select that particular player to open up
each time you click on an audio link.
You'll also be able to select which types of
audio files (.MP3, .rm, .wav, etc.) that
particular player can play. |

13. What do I need to do in order to record one of your songs on my independent CD project?
| If you have a studio project and would like to use one of our songs, please ask yourself the following questions: 1) Is the underlying song written by a Solid Walnut Music artist, and 2) Do you plan on using a background master recording of the song from Solid Walnut Music? The use of a background master recording involves two different types of copyright permissions. Both permissions are necessary for a valid "master use". You must obtain permission to use: 1. the sound recording - the rights to which are controlled by a record company, in this case Solid Walnut Music. A mechanical license will be granted to authorize replication/duplication at a certain quantity. It's also possible that a track you're considering is not controlled by Solid Walnut Music. Watch for copyright notices on the CD and lyric pages. 2. the musical composition contained in the sound recording the rights to which are controlled by the music publisher(s) of the song. In most cases, the publisher of the songs will also be Solid Walnut Music. We will be granting you a mechanical license to replicate/duplicate the work at a certain quantity. Watch for songs which may have other copyright notices. For example, many songs will need separate permissions from the holder of the rights of the sound recording and that of the musical composition. If you need a master from Solid Walnut Music, see the merchandise page and follow the Background Records link. Follow the instructions on the order form. If you don't need our master recording, but would like to use one of our songs, either fill out a Music Usage Request Form and send it in or fax it to us. You may not proceed with duplication or replication of Solid Walnut Music songs until you receive written confirmation in the form of licensing from our copyright department. For more information on this same subject, see question #14. back to top |
14. How do I obtain permission to use a Solid Walnut Music master in my own production?
| If you would like to request permission to use a Solid Walnut Music master recording in an audio, video or internet production, please fill out the
Music Usage Request Form. First, please read the following important information: The use of a master recording involves two different types of copyright permissions. Both permissions are necessary for a valid "master use". You must obtain permission to use: 1. the sound recording - the rights to which are controlled by a record company or similar production company 2. the musical composition contained in the sound recording the rights to which are controlled by the music publisher(s) of the song You can locate the publisher of the song by looking at the copyright notice at the bottom of the first printed page of music or in the liner notes of the CD project. Solid Walnut Music is both the publisher and the controller of the rights to the sound recording for many of the songs on this website. However, check on any of the printed material of the song so you know for sure. Your completion and submission of the Music Usage Request Form does not guarantee that your request will be approved. You may not proceed with your use of Solid Walnut Music materials until you receive written confirmation from our licensing department. Please allow 4 weeks for processing. If a song that you requested requires licensing from a different entity, we will do our best to let you know that. The Music Usage Request Form covers the use of the sound recording for only Solid Walnut Music songs. You are solely responsible for obtaining both sound recording and publishing permissions from the respective owner of rights (usually the publisher(s)) of each song for which a master use license is requested. Failure to do so shall automatically render the corresponding Solid Walnut Music master use license invalid. Furthermore, any mechanical license issued for use of music granted by Solid Walnut Music should in no way be interpreted as representing any rights to the musical composition itself, which are the sole property of the songs music publisher(s). By completing and submitting the Music Usage Request Form, you agree to the terms and conditions stated above. back to top |

First of all, you may purchase the sheet music for many of our songs from the merchandise page of Solid Walnut Music. The right to copy the sheet music and/or any lyric sheets derived from the sheet music or from a Solid Walnut Music recording or from a Solid Walnut Music website is granted providing your church is licensed for such purposes by CCLI (Christian Copyright Licensing, Int'l). Consult CCLI on the internet and your church office if you are not sure. If your church is licensed by CCLI, please be sure to report the use of the song to your church office. |
|
You must contact the publisher(s) of the song which you would like to record and obtain a mechanical license. If the song has been recorded by an artist or contained in a printed publication, please refer to the copyright notice on the cassette/CD insert (or title page of the song in the case of a printed piece) that pertains to that specific song. Only the publisher(s) of the song can grant permission and issue a mechanical license. The record company/recording artist cannot grant permission on behalf of the music publisher(s). |
